How the Edge Requirement Works

Lay Edge % = 100 − (True Win % × Lay Odds) Required Edge = Base (course %) + Field adj − Form reduction − J/T reduction − Market spread bonus

The required edge falls when: form strongly favours a lay, jockey/trainer are weak, or the 2nd/3rd favs are closely priced (market doesn't know who will win). It rises in small fields and when the favourite looks solid.
